The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) recently announced that its planned Bitcoin Futures product will begin trading on Dec. 10.
In a statement release today, officials mentioned that the trading will commence at 5 PM Central Time, with the first full day of trading starting that Monday. The Futures product will trade under the “XBT” ticket on the platform and it will also be free through the end of December.
CBOE are about to become the first major financial exchange platform to launch Bitcoin Futures, after CME Group announced last week that they will start to offer Bitcoin Futures exchange on 18th December.
Ed Tilly, chairman and CEO of CBOE, said:
“Given the unprecedented interest in bitcoin, it’s vital we provide clients the trading tools to help them express their views and hedge their exposure. We are committed to encouraging fairness and liquidity in the bitcoin market. To promote this, we will initially offer XBT futures trading for free.”
The confirmation comes months after the news first broke out that CBOE is planning to release the trading of Futures product. At that time in August, CBOE was working with the New York-based bitcoin exchange platform Gemini, currently run by the millionaire investors Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
